Funding Health Innovation Research with Dr. Brett Spear

We’re thrilled to announce a special opportunity as part of our HealthIER Series at 71 North! Brett Spear, National Expert and Co-Director of the SuRE Resource Center at the University of Kentucky will be on campus to share insights on Funding Health Innovation Research through the NIH R16 Mechanism.

Event Details:

🗓 Date: Friday, Nov. 1st

🕑 Time: 2:00 – 3:00 PM (with extended Q&A afterward)

📍 Location: 71 North Partnership Studio

Dr. Spear will delve into the NIH R16 Mechanism, which offers up to $100,000 in direct costs per year for up to 4 years, with $125,000/year available for first-time investigators. This funding is designed to boost biomedical research capacity and provide expanded research opportunities at resource-limited institutions, particularly in underserved regions.

The SuRE R16 awards aim to:

• Enhance faculty research excellence.

• Create more research opportunities for students.

• Strengthen the overall research culture and environment at these institutions.

This mechanism is student-focused, and we encourage students to attend! If you’re considering or would like to consider an R16 submission, this event is a must-attend. Don’t miss this chance to learn directly from an expert and get your questions answered in an extended Q&A session afterward.

Please share this opportunity with colleagues and students who might be interested in expanding their research capacity.

See you at 71 North!

The only thing we know about the future is that it will be different.
